Shanghai - Xintiandi / 上海之新天地

It's my 2nd time in Shanghai... Previously was -2! freaking cold to the max... and it was CNY eve so i couldn't go anywhere to see anything... this time round it's much warmer and i going to explore xintiandi!

when i saw this sign... I WAS LIKE OMG!!! TAIWAN!!!! no.... this is CHINA SHANGHAI... zzzzzz... i miss taiwan so much!

China really modernised and look more and more like the western countries... which I don't really like...  I prefer it to look more chinese... it will feel so much more like i AM in China...

I prefer this kind of setting... very Chinese... rather than those in Xintiandi... I don't really like Xintiandi.. it is expensive and touristy... next month i going Shanghai again and I am going to explore tianzifang... hopefully it won't disappoint me...

Social Life - April/May 2012

Really very happy to meet my friends when I am not working....

Long awaited gathering with my Canoe Polo mates from Ngee Ann Poly... Look at Rudith! she is soooooo drunk! HAHAHAH.... Lianne suggested to meet up for zi cha at Holland V end up she can't make it! hahaha! Joshua is quite lucky to be able to have someone to volunteer to organise the next gathering! haha...

Met my Gastronomia ex-colleagues for a farewell for Moses.... He is going back China to set up his own business! It's been a great time working with them last year! Once in a while I will still pop by the shop to meet them and say HELLO!!! hehee... Hope to see you again Moses! :)

The other day, last min ask Shereen out and she came out!!! woohooo!!!! she gave me an owl she bought from Beijing! ahhaha LOVE IT! it's soooo cute! hahaha

Haha.... then finally met up with SHEREEEEEEN again!!! hehe... we went to maxwell to have our dinner... ate like a pig and walked around the area. finally decided to sit and chill at pigeon hole... I love this apple cider... SOOOOOO NICE..... it's so sweeeeet-cider.... 

I went to Shanghai to help her buy the TP Link router.... guesssss what.... i bluff her that there's a limited edition polka dots router and she really believe me! LOL!!!! i just simply paste all the stickers on it! hahaha.... yeah! she is gonna keep the stickers! hahahaha

the next day i went back to tanjong pagar again cuz there's MAAD flea Market! I just found out that they are having this flea every 1st friday of the month!

Too bad I had a very full dinner with Priscilla... at Maxwell market again... 2days in a row (but the food really nice!) if not i would have try this!

So nice huh....

one thing about all these flea.... the stuffs they sell is always very girly stuff so nothing much for guys to see.... so sad.... i should have but this baby shoes for Aerin! :)

Mabel is going back Taiwan for her annual leave.... so shiok! i totally miss taiwan can! but i miss thailand more so I ask if Mabel wanna go Bangkok with me and she said she most probably would wanna go with me! WOOHOOOO!

Wed just went MAMBO with Marvin and Gill~!!! It's been exactly 3months since I last went to MAMBO!!!! MISS IT SOOOOO MUCH!!!! Zouk is kinda empty... so weird right... most of the uni students exams over but its quite empty... but its good for me... i hate overcrowding clubs... and the music was quite good! love it!!! that night they play lots of BSB & Britney songs... so 90s/00s... love it!

Yesterday, met up with my another Taiwanese friend Lucy.... I brought my mum's cooking and put it in bento and share the LOVE!!! Her first time trying Singapore mum's cooking! AND SHE LIKE IT! hehe!!!

Later on in the evening.... Preparing for Grace's birthday party... Chef Erubin again~!!! hahaha... Can't believe... this photo make me look like 18! haha... *ahem* i am already 26 an uncle already!! hahaha...

My special salad with lettuces, shaving hams and salmon roe i bought from Tokyo~!! YUMS! sprinkled with just fresh lemon juice and ground pepper.... SUPER HEALTHY YA? haha

Welcome 2 陣頭~!

Yesterday, I was invited to watch 陣頭 (Din Tao in dialect). This show was no.1 during CNY period in Taiwan! I think not many Singaporeans will know what is Din Tao... even for me as a Chinese, I totally have no idea what it is...

So this is the explanation for Din Tao:

“Din-tao” plays an important role in the Taiwanese culture and religion. Its origin could be dated back to the time when the Chinese began to immigrate to Taiwan. The long history of Din-tao shows not only its importance but how it is entwined with the Taiwanese culture and traditions.  Din-tao is a religious ritual performed in order to express people’s gratitude towards gods and goddesses at the religious festivals. The Din-tao troupes act as bodyguards when the gods and goddesses go on a parade. On the other hand, as a Din-tao ritual is carried out in a form of a performance which tells the folklore, it proves to be a popular entertainment for the masses.

 Moreover, it has become an important street art in Taiwan. To a certain degree, Din-tao helps people consolidate their solidarity in the local communities. The vigorous vitality Din-tao demonstrates and the traditional teaching it conveys makes it a crucial reference to the traditional Taiwanese ethics and cultural values.

I actually found another version of the movie poster.... I kinda like this poster. The intense drumming passion.

So how's the plot of the movie??? watch this trailer...

I hope you managed to know what's the story is gonna be like? I won't want to reveal too much. Basically, there's rivalry between 2 families, Tradition VS Modern and one very important value of Taiwanese... Respecting Elderly.

The only one thing I don't like, (nothing wrong with the movie itself) is MDA don't allow the original dialect dialogs.... most of it are voice over in Mandarin...

I personally feel is damm stupid + BIAS... why can't they treat it just like a Japanese or Korean movie? Imagine your Japanese movie you hear voice over in mandarin, it's so weird....

I mean if people don't understand the dialect.... there's English subtitle there. MDA should really remove their lame rule over the percentage used in a movie... it really reduce the "feeling" for the show...

Nonetheless, if you love Taiwan movie, you will 200% love this movie. Though you can't tell from the trailer but the movie really have very funny moments just like "那些年。。。" (You are the Apple of my eye) I totally enjoyed it!!

Furthermore, now I know more about Din Tao, my next trip to Taiwan, I really hope to see the real thing for myself! I whatsapp my Taiwanese friends and told them about the movie and they said it is really base on a REAL STORY!!! He is going to bring me to see the real thing! SO EXCITED! CAN'T WAIT 2 GO TAIWAN AGAIN!!!

I realised I did not blog about my wonderful Taiwan trip last year.... Now Taiwan is my No.1 retirement place for me.... hehe.... Everyone please catch this movie when it is out in Singapore 31st May!!! MUST WATCH! :)

Chef Erubin Debuts!

Yesterday I cooked this! Pan Fried Salmon with Asparagus and Carrots + Pasta!! YUMS~!!! Sometime I wonder how I can cook "quite well" without any professional culinary training and experience. I JUST LOVE COOKING!

I actually was really happy to make my own Egg Benedicts at home! Now that I know how to make it, I think it is super expensive to pay for Egg Benedicts... sooooo expensive! Imagine an egg cost 20cents and they charged you for $12!? It's daylight robbery! haha... but oh well... that's the market rate! I shall set up my biz soon! :)

Right after my Egg Benedict creation, the next few days, I made my own bentos! So cute and beautiful huh.... really love the Snoopy Bento box I got it from Snoopy Town in Japan! SO WORTH IT!! Omg... when am I going to open my Erubin Shop.... I really been cracking my brain on the name of the shop and I can't seem to find a right name.... some of my friends told me i should just name it ERUBIN! What do you guys think? Let me know! :)

Sometime I really do like to look at my friends' facebook... you always get all these cutesy and touching stuffs... it just like the new way of chain emails.... don't you realised you hardly get any chain emails anymore? Just like last time we all will have chain sms like forward this msg to 10 of your friends and blah blah.... nowadays we are more serious on phone huh... dun like to receive all these chain sms anymore.... OK THAT'S NOT THE POINT IN THIS POST..... 

ALL I WANNA SAY I WANT A DOG SO BADLY THAT.... I DUN MIND NOT WORKING FOR A FEW MONTHS JUST TO SPEND SOMETIME WITH A DOG.... every since young... I always wanted my own dog but my mum just dun want to have one cuz she think all dogs are stray dogs (her excuses), said that the dog will pee all over the place (she dunno what's toilet training is), bite every piece of furniture (she watched too much TV, it's not Milo put on the mask..

Lucky in life.... I HAVE SNOOPY! HAHA

I am still waiting for that day I just get a dog n ignore my mum totally... hahah let's just wait huh!

Today, Singapore lost a great talent... Last met her was at Cinderel-Lah! Opening Gala... It's really sad that you have to go so soon... I will miss you. Thank you for all the joy you brought...
